On the afternoon of July 31st local time, early this morning (August 1st) Beijing time, at the request of Iran, China, Algeria, and Russia, the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on the assassination of Hamas leader Haniya. China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, stated in his speech at the meeting that China firmly opposes and strongly condemns the assassination of Haniya. This is a blatant violation of peace efforts and a wanton trampling on the fundamental principle of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries in the United Nations Charter. Fu Cong pointed out that the Gaza conflict has lasted for nearly 300 days, causing nearly 40000 deaths and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. Fu Cong emphasized that in the face of severe reality, the parties involved should comply with the international community's call for a ceasefire and end to war, fully implement Security Council resolutions, actively cooperate and support international mediation efforts, and take practical actions to promote the cooling down of the situation and restore regional peace and tranquility. Instead of acting unilaterally and constantly taking provocative and risky actions to provoke the escalation of the situation. China strongly opposes and condemns a series of irresponsible actions that have occurred recently, including Israel's attack on southern Beirut. The Chinese side reiterates that military means and the abuse of force are not the solution to the problem, but will only lead to greater crises. The direct reason for the continuous deterioration of the situation in the Middle East is that the ceasefire and end of the war in Gaza have not been implemented. China urges all parties to comply with the overwhelming consensus of the international community, jointly promote an immediate ceasefire, save lives, alleviate disasters, and contain the spillover of conflicts.
