Huawei's Yu Chengdong responded to being ridiculed for being "far ahead": only saying it when the lead is quite significant

Over the past decade, Yu Chengdong, Executive Director of Huawei, CEO of Terminal BG, and Chairman of Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, has often described Huawei's products as "far ahead" at press conferences. At Huawei's new M7 press conference on September 12th, Yu Chengdong mentioned "far ahead" at least five times and more than twenty times within 90 minutes. At an earlier Huawei Mate 40 series press conference, according to media statistics, Yu Chengdong said "far ahead" 14 times during a press conference.

On December 9th, Yu Chengdong responded to the ridicule of being "far ahead" by netizens at Huawei's pollen annual meeting, stating that he sometimes has at most one far ahead in a press conference, and sometimes even none at all. He only said so when he has a significant lead in this field.

Yu Chengdong said that it is not easy to achieve a "far ahead", and behind each lead is the result of research and development innovation, technological investment, and continuous efforts. He said that he has a background in research and development and knows how hard the R&D team members have put in.

He gave an example that Huawei's leadership in the mobile phone industry is based on breakthroughs in core technologies such as HiSilicon Qilin chips, HarmonyOS, and Huawei imaging. The breakthroughs in these technologies require a significant amount of research and development investment and time to accumulate.

Yu Chengdong also revealed that he will launch leading, innovative, and disruptive products next year. "You can see how we can rewrite the history of this industry."
