Biden stated that he is deeply saddened and angry about the hospital bombing in the Gaza Strip. Biden stated that from what he saw, the explosion was "done by the other party, not your side".

According to CCTV News, the Palestinian side stated that on the evening of the 17th local time, the "Ahli Arab Hospital" (also known as the Baptist Hospital) in Gaza City, Gaza Strip, was hit by Israeli air strikes, causing serious casualties. The Israeli military claims that there is intelligence from the Israeli side indicating that the attack was carried out by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization (Jehad) on the Baptist Hospital in Gaza. The Israeli military also stated that at the time of the hospital explosion, multiple rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel. Subsequently, the Jahad side denied the Israeli allegations.
